Grab Your Red Solo Cups and Get Started!

About 3 years ago, my husband and I built this raised bed garden box together. We bought all the right wood, got out the saw, and measured the area where the box would fit. Then my DH drew out a plan and we went to work cutting, gluing and nailing. I love the smell of wood and the sense of accomplishment of completing a project. Especially, a useful one like a garden box.

This year, I decided to purchase vegetable seeds and plant them in our red SOLO cups. It’s cheaper, plus I love to watch the plants grow! My DH filled the cups with dirt, then today I planted our tomatoes, cucumbers, peas, beans, and pepper seeds. We will plant the radishes and carrots in deep pots. Then the strawberries and herbs will be planted in the beds near the house.

I am not an avid gardener, but I do like it in the fall when we are able to eat a few fresh vegetables from the garden and dry some herbs to use throughout the winter.

Last year, we planted our garden before Mother’s Day and then we had a freeze after that. Starting our plants from seeds in our red SOLO cups should avoid the freeze. *fingers crossed*
